Berkeley Street Drainage Design

Image of Berkley Street

Berkeley Street is a local road in Castlemaine that provides access to residential, commercial and other properties. During major storms, properties along and near Berkeley Street have been affected by flooding.

Project summary

Council is undertaking flood investigations and drainage design for Berkeley Street in 2022/23. The project will determine the extent and causes of flooding, and develop options and designs for improving the drainage network to minimise flood risks and impacts.

Project aim

  • Understand the extent and causes of flooding to properties along and near Berkeley Street in Castlemaine.
  • Investigate options for mitigating flood impacts to these properties and determine the preferred upgrade option.
  • Prepare a detailed design and cost estimate for the preferred option.

Design considerations

  • Impact of rainfall events on flood levels and extent.
  • Deficiencies with the existing drainage network.
  • Upstream and downstream influences.
  • Need for additional and larger drainage pipes.
  • Possible low cost and high cost drainage improvements.

The views of the community along and near Berkeley Street are welcome, and will be considered during the design

Project outcomes

The project will provide a detailed design and cost estimate for drainage upgrade works along and near Berkeley Street.
Construction of the works will be considered for funding in future Council programs.

Where are we now?

A consultant has been engaged to undertake the project.

What happens next?

The flood investigations and drainage design will be undertaken during January 2023 to June 2023.
