Council has secured funding from the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI) to conserve the iron and stonework of the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens Main Gates.
The conservation work to the gates, and replacement of damaged or missing metal spears will enable the retention of the special heritage values that are unique to the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens, which will be preserved and retained for future generations.
The conservation works proposed have been carefully considered in relation to the heritage significance of the site and architectural features, and are being managed under Heritage Victoria orders.
