Municipal Emergency Management Plan

Aerial bushfire

Each municipality must have a Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) that includes representatives of the council, response agencies (such as Victoria Police, CFA), recovery agencies (such as the Department of Health and Human Services), and local community groups involved in emergency management issues.

The Mount Alexander MEMPC in partnership with the Northern Victorian Integrated MEMPC has developed an Integrated MEMP for the Mount Alexander, Loddon, Central Goldfields, City of Greater Bendigo and Campaspe municipalities.

An Integrated MEMP, allows all five councils to endorse the same plan, excluding appendices. The individual appendices reflect localised differences for each individual council.

What does the MEMP do?

To assist with minimising the effects of an emergency, the MEMP:

• outlines the emergency management arrangements
• addresses all phases of emergency management
• prevention
• response
• recovery
• details pre existing arrangements with other emergency services agencies
• specifies roles and responsibilities
