‘Wamble’ along Forest Creek in October

Bushwalk

Come along on a walking tour of Forest Creek at Council's next free sustainable living workshop.

Wednesday 11 October 2017

Are you interested in learning more about the creeks that meander through Chewton, Castlemaine and into Campbells Creek?

Come along on a walking-ramble or ‘wamble’ along Forest Creek and learn about the history, ecosystem, plants and wildlife of this important waterway.

You’ll hear about all the work undertaken by local Landcare groups and the future plans for Council to manage the creek in collaboration with the community.

“Landcare groups have been restoring creeks and streams within our shire for many years,” said Kylie Stafford, Natural Environment Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“We are lucky to have such a committed and passionate group of volunteers who have worked so hard to improve our local waterways. We encourage everyone to get involved with the on-going management of the creeks,” said Ms Stafford.

Council is developing an Urban Waterways Management Plan in consultation with the community. The wamble is an opportunity for people to learn more about the plan and understand the challenges and opportunities of local creeks.

“We want to hear from the community about what they value about local creeks,” said Ms Stafford.

Participants should wear long pants, walking shoes and be prepared to walk over some uneven ground. Moderate levels of fitness are required.

The wamble is hosted by Jon Leevers, a local Landcare member who has a long history with the creeks and Council’s Kylie Stafford.

It is part of Council’s Sustainable Living Workshop Series, which was developed to assist residents to live and work sustainably as part of Council’s plan to foster environmentally responsible and liveable communities.
