Check out local art at the Market Building

People and art at Market Building

Wednesday 27 June 2018

More than 80 local artists have come together to create another wonderful exhibition as part of the annual Market Art Winter Exhibition at Castlemaine’s historic Market Building.

Aileen Walsh from Mount Alexander Shire Council said the exhibition has a fantastic range of paintings, sculpture, jewellery, glassware, prints, photography, textiles and more.

“One of the best things about these exhibitions is the diversity of artwork on display. We have works from established artists and those just starting out, so it’s a really broad representation from the entire community,” said Ms Walsh, Team Leader Visitor Services.

“The works have really brightened up the Market Building, and all pieces are for sale.”

Sharing floor space with the Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre means the exhibition is easily accessible to the region’s many tourists.

“The sales at our summer exhibition totalled a record breaking $29,300, which is such a testament to our creative community,” said Ms Walsh.

More than 26,000 people visited the exhibition during the summer display.

The winter exhibition is on until Sunday 26 August.

“If you’re in Mostyn Street pop in to take a look and feel free to have a chat to some of our friendly volunteers at the Visitor Information Centre,” said Ms Walsh.

The Market Building is located at 44 Mostyn Street, Castlemaine and is open every day from 9.00am – 5.00pm.

The exhibition is coordinated by Mount Alexander Shire Council to support and promote our cultural and artistic communities.
