Apply for a community grant

Council has revamped its popular Community Grants Program in response to community feedback. The changes include introducing two rounds of funding each year, a simplified application process, and options of small grants (up to $3,000) and partnership grants (up to $10,000 over three years).

Applications for 2019 projects will open on Tuesday 29 January and close on Friday 18 February. Information sessions will be held throughout this period. Guidelines and information session details will be available at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/CommunityGrants from Monday 21 January. New residency program at Phee

Applications for the 2019-2020 At Home residency program at the Phee Broadway Theatre are now open. Opportunities include three week intensive residencies, a 12 session weekday residency, and six-weekly foyer exhibitions. Expressions of interest are open until 5.00pm on Monday 11 February. Australia Day community event

Come along and join the Australia Day activities at Victory Park in Castlemaine from 10.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday 26 January. Meet Australia Day Award recipients and welcome our newest Australian citizens. Enjoy a free barbecue lunch and family-friendly entertainment including live music, a bouncy castle and face painting for kids. The community event is supported by the Upper Loddon Indigenous group Nalderun.

You can also cool off on Australia Day with free entry to outdoor pools at Castlemaine, Newstead, Harcourt and Maldon.

Council order for Elsie Palmer Field

Order Made Pursuant to the Domestic Animals Act 1994 Section 26 (2).

Passed by Council Resolution, 18 December 2018.

In accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994, from 18 December 2018 in the Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve of the Mount Alexander Shire Council dogs are to be controlled in the following manner at all times:

Dogs are prohibited from the Elsie Palmer Field.

A map of the area is available from the latest news section of our website and at the Civic Centre. All other areas of the Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve, dogs can be off-lead provided that the conditions of use in this Order and other Orders relating to Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve are complied with.

Bin collection on Total Fire Ban days

Rubbish and recycling will be collected in the early hours of days declared as a Total Fire Ban. This means that you will need to put out your bins the night before. Due to the higher risk of fires our Maldon and Castlemaine waste facilities are closed to the public on days of Total Fire Ban. For more information on waste and recycling services visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/WasteManagement.

Grant information session

Find out how your community group can apply for a grant from Maldon & District Community Bank at an information session held at 6.30pm on Thursday 31 January at Maldon Community Centre.
