Online relief centre provides COVID-19 support

Mount Alexander Shire Council staff ready to support you on the COVID-19 help line.

Council has launch virtual emergency relief centre to help and connect the community during its recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Mount Alexander Shire Council has expanded its dedicated COVID-19 support service with the launch of an online virtual emergency relief centre (VERC) to connect the community during its recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Mount Alexander Shire Council Mayor Christine Henderson said the online VERC on the Connect Mount Alexander website provides a one-stop shop for assistance, similar to what would be provided in a physical emergency relief centre.

“The VERC adds to Council’s 1800 support line and email to provide information about programs and services to help residents and business dealing with the impacts of COVID-19,” said Mayor Henderson.

“It provides one place to access all COVID-19 related information, with links to relevant websites and referral to local service providers, agencies or programs for assistance. There is also a section on frequently asked questions and an online form for requesting more information and support.”

“The content was developed based on the questions we are seeing and hearing from our community, and will continue to be updated as new information becomes available over time.”

Council’s response team will review all requests to the COVID-19 support service to:

• Connect local residents, businesses and creatives to support and advice
• Link requests for assistance and information to program partners and support agencies
• Provide guidance on changing restrictions, testing and regulatory requirements.

The launch of the COVID-19 support service is part of Council’s second stage response to the pandemic, after announcing initial financial relief measures in March. Council is also working with several working groups to assess the economic and social impacts of the pandemic in the shire, and has released a survey to local businesses and creatives to help shape its support plan.

“Connect Mount Alexander has always been an online space to link members of our shire to a range of information about community groups, organisations and events,” said Mayor Henderson.

“The platform has been updated to ensure our community can stay informed and connected to information and support relating to COVID-19.”

The COVID-19 support service is part of a broader campaign - Connect Mount Alexander - together we thrive – that builds on the strength of the local community.

“We are so grateful to have a strong and resilient community that has worked together to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and helped each other through this difficult time. We know it’s going to be a long road to recovery and thank everyone for continuing to work together to combat COVID-19 as a community. We are all in this together and together we thrive,” said Mayor Henderson.
