Want to run for Council?

Pile of newspapers wrapped in string.

Wednesday 8 July 2020

Victorian Local Council elections will be held in October and candidates interested in running for election are invited to join a free interactive workshop.

The Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) will present the workshops in collaboration with Mount Alexander Shire Council.

Workshops will cover the roles and responsibilities of councils and councillors, current issues facing local government, candidate information for the upcoming elections and campaign tips and tools.

Under changes to the Local Government Act 2020, every candidate who runs for election must attend one of the sessions.

“While compulsory, these workshops are a chance for potential candidates to ask questions and learn more about local government and the election process,” said Jude Holt, Executive Manager Business Continuity, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“If you’re considering running at the next Council election please sign up to a session to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements,” said Ms Holt.

Session one:
When: 6.00pm to 9.00pm on Thursday 13 August
Where: Council Chambers, Civic Centre in Castlemaine.

Session two:
Date: 10.00am to 12.30pm on Saturday 12 September
Where: Council Chambers, Civic Centre in Castlemaine.
