Council closes customer service desk

Council will temporarily close its doors to the customer service area at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine from close of business at 5pm on Friday 31 July, due to changing coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

Mount Alexander Shire Council will temporarily close its doors to the customer service area at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine from close of business at 5pm on Friday 31 July, due to changing coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

Council’s Director of Community and Customer Services Lisa Knight said the decision was due to several factors including staff wellbeing, resourcing and the mandatory use of masks.

Council staff and the customer service team will be continuing to respond to customer enquiries and deliver services.

Customers can still contact council by phone and email, or lodge a customer service request via the home page on the website 24 hours, seven days a week.

“We were keen to reopen our doors and service the community when the restrictions first eased at the end of June. All necessary steps were taken to ensure that appropriate procedures were in place to meet social distancing and hygiene measures,” said Ms Knight.

“However the situation is continually changing and we had to weigh up a number of factors. The return to Stay at Home restrictions in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire made it difficult for us to maintain rosters for specialised staff at the technical services desk, and the recent directions on the mandatory use of face coverings was also part of our decision making.

“Staff safety and wellbeing is paramount and was a big consideration. The number of cases and restrictions are shifting daily and we’ll continue to look at any additional changes we might need to make,” she said.

The Customer Service Team is available on weekdays between 8.30am and 5.00pm on 5471 1700 or email info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au .

Payments can also be made over the phone, and via the website or www.bpay.com.au. Please get in touch with Council if you are unable to make a payment or are experiencing financial hardship.

The Visitor Information Centre in Castlemaine is still open on weekends, and staff are available to provide visitor information from 9am to 5pm each day on 1800 171 888.
