Council secured funds from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program for this project.
The first charging station is located at 7 High Street in Harcourt, adjacent to the public toilet block, and the second is in the Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre carpark, at the back of the IGA supermarket on Forest Street in the Castlemaine CBD.
The new electric vehicle chargers have been developed and manufactured by Australian company Tritium, and feature rapid-charging technology that will allow most battery electric vehicles to fully recharge within one to two hours.
The new charging stations are part of the Charging the Regions program, which will see the installation of more than 20 electric vehicle chargers rolled out across 17 sites in Central and Western Victoria before the end of 2021.
The program is being delivered by the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance (CVGA), Victorian Government and 12 local Councils, including Mount Alexander Shire Council.
