Regional Roads Victoria (RRV), in partnership with Mount Alexander Shire Council, is inviting residents to a community presentation to view draft landscape designs of the Harcourt roundabout.

The roundabout falls under the jurisdiction of RRV, who developed a working group in 2020 to inform the design process. The working group included Dja Dja Wurrung Traditional Owners and representatives from the Harcourt Progress Association and Council.

“We’re excited that Regional Roads Victoria has enabled this project,” said Karen Evennett, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities at Mount Alexander Shire Council.

The draft design for the landscape upgrade for the Harcourt roundabout at the Calder Highway exit will include the following features:

• gentle earth mounds across the centre of the roundabout
• local flora such as grevilleas, acacias, low banksias and Alogyne
• a resilient design that is able to be easily maintained and cared for within available resources
• grasslands that will contain a mix of locally indigenous and Victorian native grasses intersected with native meadow plants
• reused Harcourt Granite boulders from the current design

The benefits of the improved landscaping at the roundabout include providing improved visibility for drivers and ensuring the rocks are set back from the road edge.

The intention of the concept is to provide a beautiful and welcoming landscape which is reflective of Harcourt, the people who live there and the local environment.

“The proposed landscaping will make maintenance of the roundabout much easier and will address community concern that we’ve heard,” said Barry Green, Manager Operations at Regional Roads Victoria.

The community presentation will take place on Thursday 31 March at 7pm at the ANA Hall, 7 High Street, Harcourt.
