Kerbside rubbish and recycling around Mount Alexander Shire has recommenced today following yesterday’s decision by Wheelie Waste to suspend the collection service.
Waste contractor Wheelie Waste informed Mount Alexander Shire Council early yesterday morning of their immediate suspension of the kerbside waste and recycling collection.
Council worked with Wheelie Waste, State Government and Macedon Ranges Shire Council to reverse the decision.
“We are very happy that bins and recycling around the shire are being collected, and urge everyone whose bins did not get collected yesterday to keep them out,” said Rebecca Stockfeld, Acting Director Sustainable Development, Mount Alexander Shire Council.
“We hope to get bins collected quickly, but it may take a couple of days,” said Ms Stockfeld.
Wheelie Waste informed Council the decision to cease collection was in protest of the State Government’s lack of detail regarding a rebate to address the increased cost of recycling.
“We look forward to hearing more details on the State Government intervention,” said Ms Stockfeld.
