Welcome to our new Councillor Max Lesser, representative for the Castlemaine Ward.

Thursday 8 March 2018

Mount Alexander Shire has a new Councillor following the election of Max Lesser to the Castlemaine ward vacancy.

Councillor Lesser fills the extraordinary vacancy created by the resignation of Robin Taylor last month. The vacancy was filled through an election countback conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).

Councillor Lesser signed the Oath of Office today and made a declaration to abide by the Councillor Code of Conduct. Former Councillor Chris Cole received the highest number of votes for the initial countback held earlier in the week, but declined the position.

“This is an amazing situation. I think it’s a great reminder for everyone, but particularly young people, to take part and participate – you never know what might happen!” said Cr Lesser.

Cr Lesser said his priorities are vision, partnership and connectedness.

“I have a lot of experience from my many years working in local government and I’m looking forward to listening and understanding the big picture at Council,” he said.

Mayor Bronwen Machin said Councillors and staff were very happy to have Cr Lesser on board.

“We are looking forward to working with Max and it’s great to have all three councillors represented in the Castlemaine Ward, and all seven councillor positions filled,” said Cr Machin.

“We’re keen to get on with it and continue to work for the community.”

Along with Mayor Machin, Cr Lesser joins Mount Alexander Shire Councillors John Nieman, Christine Henderson, Tony Cordy, Dave Petrusma and Stephen Gardner.
