Don’t forget to register your pet

Dogs in autumn leaves

Monday 19 March 2018

If you own a dog or cat (or both!) don’t forget that pet registrations are due on Tuesday 10 April.

Annual pet registrations in Mount Alexander Shire start at $22.50 and mean that if your furry friend goes astray the pound or vet can use your pet’s microchip and registration details to contact you for a speedy reunification.

It’s also important to make sure your contact phone numbers are up to date.

By registering your pet you’re also helping Council’s Animal Management Team who act on dog attacks, investigate nuisance animals, capture roaming livestock and much more.

Did you know that you are eligible for reduced registration fees if your pet is:

• De-sexed
• Over 10 years of age
• Kept for working stock
• Kept for breeding by the proprietor of a registered animal business, or
• Has an obedience certificate issued by a government approved organisation.

Healthcare card holders and pensioners are also eligible for a Council subsidy to make it more affordable to de-sex your pet.

If your pet is already registered you will soon receive a renewal notice in the mail. If you’re new to the shire or have only recently gained a pet you can drop into the Civic Centre in Castlemaine or even register online at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/Dog_and_cat_registrations.

All cats and dogs over the age of three months must be registered and microchipped. If you have any questions please get in touch with Council’s Animal Management Team on 5471 1700.
