Queensland Fruit Fly has been found in gardens throughout the shire, threatening fruit and vegetable production for backyard growers and orchardists. Ali Brookes from Maldon Cherry Farm has organised community information forums with Agriculture Victoria to inform people what they can do to manage and prevent the spread of the pest. Three forums will be held on Thursday 5 April. Sessions are from 9.30am to 11.00am at Maldon Community Centre; from 12noon to 1.30pm at Castlemaine Botanical Gardens Former Tea Rooms; and from 2.30pm to 4.00pm at Harcourt Uniting Church Hall. Cr Stephen Gardner will hold a listening post from 10.00am to 12noon on Sunday 15 April at Baringhup Hall. Cr Christine Henderson holds a listening post on the first Friday of every month from 8.30am to 10.30am at Elphinstone Post Office. Listening posts are a great way to provide feedback to your local councillor so come along and say hello.
