Mount Alexander Shire Council has developed a draft plan to manage the 70 hectares of public land around creeks throughout Castlemaine, Campbells Creek and Chewton.

Council worked with Friends of Campbells Creek and Castlemaine Landcare Group to draft the plan to manage the land currently under public license to Council.

“It’s been great to work with such passionate community groups to help guide the activities we can work on together, such as community education initiatives, on ground environmental works and water quality improvements,” said Kylie Stafford, Natural Environment Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

Ms Stafford said the plan also outlines ways of seeking support from other levels of government and working with local schools.

“We are so lucky to have such beautiful nature right on the doorstep of our towns. Part of this plan is bringing the community into these areas so more people can enjoy them,” said Ms Stafford.

To have your say on the draft Castlemaine Creekways Management Plan head to Council’s website at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay or visit the Civic Centre to read a printed copy during business hours.

Written submissions will be accepted until Tuesday 1 May. For more information contact Kylie Stafford on 5471 1700.
