Expressions of Interest are now open for people interested in joining Mount Alexander Shire community’s LGBTIQ roundtable.

Mount Alexander Shire Council Mayor Bronwen Machin said she hoped plenty of people will come forward and put their hand up to join the roundtable.

“If you are interested in supporting LGBTIQ people in our community to have equal access and support from Council and other organisations then we’d love to have you on the roundtable,” said Mayor Machin.

Last Wednesday a forum, facilitated by Castlemaine Community House’s Martyn Shaddick and community representative Sherene Clow, outlined the progress towards forming the roundtable and the next steps.

“The forum brought together a good number of people from different parts of the shire to hear about the roundtable and to get involved,” said Martyn Shaddick, Manager, Castlemaine Community House.

“It gave participants the chance to ask the Mayor questions about the process and future plans,” said Mr Shaddick.

“Castlemaine Community House has a strong focus on equity and diversity and are very pleased that Council is taking this approach for the LGBTIQ people in this community,” he said.

Nomination forms and Roundtable Terms of Reference are now available on the Mount Alexander Shire Council and Castlemaine Community House websites.

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by 5.00pm on Monday 7 May. All personal information will be treated with the strictest of confidence.
