Mount Alexander Shire has welcomed new Australian citizens at a civic ceremony in Castlemaine this week.

Mayor of Mount Alexander Shire Mayor Bronwen Machin conducted the ceremony and led Leova Marston and Elizabeth Sharplin in their pledge to become Australians.

She thanked Leova and Elizabeth and congratulated them on becoming Australian citizens.

“On behalf of Council I extend my best wishes and congratulate you on this special achievement,” said Mayor Machin.

“It is big commitment to become an Australian citizen and demonstrate Australian values and culture through a lengthy citizenship process.

“Mount Alexander Shire is a special place and we are honoured you have chosen here as your home,” she said.

Leova hails from The Philippines and has lived in Castlemaine for 11 years. Elizabeth is from Britain and has been a resident of Castlemaine for six years.

Both new Australian citizens were presented with a certificate and a native plant.
