Put on your thinking cap for Seniors Festival

Steering committee members for the Seniors Festival 2018

Plan an event or get involved in the Seniors Festival this October.

The 2018 Seniors Festival Steering Committee is looking for fun and interesting events to be incorporated into this year’s Seniors Festival celebration in October.

The festival is incredibly popular and provides a huge range of activities for seniors to get out and about, try their hand at something new and meet other people.

“The committee is very excited about this years’ festival and we are keen to hear from local groups and organisations who would like to get involved,” said Steering Committee member Marilyn Bennet.

“This year we’re planning a Seniors Expo to launch the fun in early October. The expo is a chance for local not-for-profit clubs and organisations to promote the work they do with seniors or for seniors and explain how others can get involved,” said Ms Bennet.

“We also have $200 grants from Mount Alexander Shire Council for five local events to be held during the festival.”

A free program guide will be available in the lead up to the festival.

Ms Bennet said the process to include events in the program guide or apply for a grant has been simplified so groups only need to complete one form.

“This makes it easier for organisations or not-for-profits to have their event included in the festival program, apply for a Council grant, or to hold a stall at the Seniors Expo,” she said.

Collect an expression of interest form from Castlemaine Community House (CCH) at 65 Templeton Street, Castlemaine or on their website at www.cch.org.au/community/seniors-festival-2018 or from Maldon Neighbourhood Centre on the corner of Church and Edwards streets, Maldon.

You can also request to have a printed copy sent to you via mail. Contact CCH on 5472 4842 or email reception@cch.org.au.

Expression of interest forms are due by 5.00pm on Friday 6 August.

There’s plenty of work to be done in the lead up to the festival and Ms Bennet said they’d love to have more people getting involved.

“We’d really like other people to come along to our steering committee meetings, which are held on the last Wednesday of the month at 1.00pm,” said Ms Bennet.

This year’s festival is arranged by the Seniors Festival Steering Committee in partnership with Mount Alexander Shire Council and Castlemaine Community House.

Victorian Seniors Card holders are eligible for eight days of free public transport (including all V/Line services) as part of the Seniors Festival from Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 October.
