Mount Alexander Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from community and skill-based representatives to inform a review and update of the Maldon Design Guidelines.

Council is updating the guidelines to help protect and maintain the heritage significance of the historic town.

The Project Advisory Group will help with the review and improvement of the guidelines which aim to assist with design and development that is sensitive to the heritage significance of Maldon.

“The guidelines are important to maintain the integrity of Maldon and promote good design for new development” said Lisa Merkesteyn, Heritage and Urban Design Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.
“The advisory group will be chaired by Councillor Stephen Gardner, and will include council’s Building Inspector, Planning Officer, and Heritage and Urban Design Officer in addition to the four community members,” she said.

Preferred applicants will be representatives who have knowledge of Maldon’s heritage, landscape or built environment, and are passionate about the Maldon township.

“Community involvement and engagement is important to the success of the project,” said Ms Merkesteyn.

“The advisory group is one way for us to gain valuable insight and input from the community, and we will also provide opportunities for broader public comment throughout the process,”

“This is an opportunity to be involved in guiding the future of Maldon, so please get in touch if you want to learn more or have any questions or comments about the project,” she said.

It is anticipated there will be five meetings over a 9 to 12 month period, starting from October.

The terms of reference and application form are available on Council’s website at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay. Applications close on Friday 21 September.
