Street tree pruning is set to start soon in Castlemaine and Maldon.

Street tree pruning will soon start in Maldon and Castlemaine to protect public safety and improve the appearance of local streets.

“Council’s street tree maintenance program will start up again in October to improve tree health,” said Stewart Campbell, Coordinator Parks and Gardens, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

The pruning will remove dead wood from trees and maintain appropriate clearances from roads, footpaths, street lights and signs.

“The trees in the scheduled areas of Maldon, and central and eastern parts of Castlemaine were last pruned around three years ago.

“We’ll only be targeting those trees that need pruning and will be making every effort to retain tree shape while ensuring safety and clearance standards,” said Stewart.

Trees on private property will not be pruned. The works are in addition to the annual tree pruning program that maintains clearance from power lines.
