Shire residents can dispose of green waste for free at the Castlemaine and Maldon waste facilities from Saturday 20 October to Sunday 4 November. Green waste includes grass clippings, wood and tree branches less than 10cm in diameter. The waste must be free of rubbish and declared noxious weeds. Residents are encouraged to use this opportunity to prepare their property for the fire season.

Make the most of all the events and activities planned as part of this year’s Victorian Seniors Festival. There’s plenty to do including Council’s free concert with The Substitutes at 2.00pm on Friday 12 October at the Castlemaine Town Hall. Collect a Seniors Festival program from community hubs or online at www.cch.org.au.

Council is holding its third Mount Alexander Shire Early Years Forum where staff will present the draft Early Years Plan. The forum will be held at 5.30pm on Wednesday 10 October at the Civic Centre. Come along and find out how to be more dementia friendly. Hear from someone living with dementia and local support services. The session will be held from 1.00pm to 3.00pm on Wednesday 10 October at the Ray Bradfield Room, at Victory Park, Castlemaine next to the supermarket carpark. Learn how you can recognise possible emerging mental health concerns or a mental health crisis in a young person at Youth Mental Health First Aid Training. If you’re over the age of 50 and are looking to improve your digital skills come along to Council’s Be Connected sessions. Formerly known as Broadband For Seniors, Be Connected is run by Council’s Social Support volunteers and is held every Monday from 9.00am to 12.00noon at the Castlemaine Town Hall on Lyttleton Street.

If you identify as LGBTIQ+ come along to a workshop to discuss your needs, wants and aspirations and what the community can do to support you. The workshop is part of the two-year Castlemaine Take Pride project. It will be held from 10.00am to 1.00pm on Friday 19 October at Castlemaine Continuing Education, Templeton Street. Castlemaine Health is hosting a free day of fun for young people with disabilities, their siblings, parents and carers. The event - Siblings Rock - will be held on Sunday 21 October. It includes a selection of activities for young people including ten pin bowls, an indoor play centre, go karts, dance class and more.
