With the forecast for a drier than average summer ahead, now is the perfect time to learn how to be water smart in the garden.

Come along council’s next sustainable living workshop to learn how you can take more care in capturing and using water to grow a productive garden.

Richard Rowe from Sustainable Gardening Australia will be in Castlemaine on Saturday 27 October to share his tips and tricks for water smart gardening.

“Water is critical to a garden’s success yet gardeners need to be mindful about how it is used,” said Mr Rowe.

“The more steps we can take to conserve water while maintaining healthy and productive trees and gardens, the more secure our sources of water will be into the future,” he said.

The upcoming workshop will cover smart garden design options, plant selection, how to improve the water holding capacity of soil, when and how to mulch, the capture and storage of rain water, grey water considerations and irrigation options.

The first 25 attendees will also receive a goodie bag from Coliban Water containing a smart gardens brochure and a free trigger hose nozzle.

This special event is hosted by Mount Alexander Shire Council to help residents to live and work sustainably in the shire.
