Congratulations to Cr Bronwen Machin and Cr Tony Cordy who were elected by Councillors as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mount Alexander Shire. Both were elected for a one year term.

Property owners are reminded the second instalment of the 2018/2019 rates is due on Friday 30 November. Council provides a number of convenient payment options. If you haven't received your notice or are having difficulty paying your rates, please contact 5471 1700 for assistance.

Congratulations to Anna Letch, Margaret Goodes, Penelope Langmead and Liz Denniston who are the lucky winners of a $25 Stoneman’s Book Room voucher for participating in Council’s access and inclusion survey. Thank you to all 226 respondents who completed the survey in August. The results will inform future direction of the 2017-2021 Disability Action Plan and will be made publicly available in December.

Nominations for the 2019 Mount Alexander Australia Day Awards have been extended to 5.00pm on Monday 3 December. Categories are Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year and Event of the Year. Nominate or find out more at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/AustraliaDay.

Council has completed stage one of a three-stage program to improve drainage and reduce the risk of flooding to homes around Saint Street and Greenhill Avenue, Castlemaine. The Saint and Barker street intersection remains closed as Council explores the option to reduce traffic and improve safety at the intersection. Council hopes to have a permanent solution in place before Christmas, pending approval by VicRoads. Traffic can continue to take the alternative route via Forest Street.

Council is putting together a plan to grow Harcourt and would like to hear from you. Head along to an information session to learn more. Sessions include 2.00pm - 2.45pm on Tuesday 4 December and 2.00pm - 2.45pm on Wednesday 5 December at Harcourt Pre-school; 6.00pm - 7.00pm on Thursday 6 December at Harcourt Bowling Club; and 3.15pm - 4.00pm on Friday 7 December at Harcourt Valley Primary School. Council's outdoor pools at Castlemaine, Newstead, Harcourt and Maldon will open on Saturday 1 December. See our website for opening times and entry fees. The pool season will continue through until Labour Day, Monday 11 March 2019. Pools will be closed on Christmas Day and on Code Red days.

Local businesses are encouraged to go orange and show support for gender equality. The best orange window display will win a $200 prize. Local artist Mark Dober and daughter Emily have a joint exhibition of figure drawings called The Two of Us at the Phee Broadway Theatre foyer, Mechanics Lane, Castlemaine.
