Notice of Approval of Amendment
Amendment C82

The Minister for Planning has approved Amendment C82 to the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme. The Amendment comes into operation on the date this notice is published in the Victoria Government Gazette.

The Amendment implements the findings of the Castlemaine, Campbells Creek and Chewton Flood Management Plan, 2015 by applying the Floodway Overlay, Schedule 1 (FO1) to land in Castlemaine, Campbells Creek and Chewton; deleting the Land Subject to Inundation Overlay (LSIO) and reapplying the LSIO, Schedule 1 (LSIO1) and LSIO, Schedule 2 (LSIO2) to land throughout the municipality; amending Clause 21.05-2 (Floodplains); inserting Clause 44.03, Floodway Overlay (FO) into the Planning Scheme; inserting a new Schedule 1 to Clause 44.03 (FO1) into the Planning Scheme; inserting a new Schedule 1 to Clause 44.04 (LSIO1) into the Planning Scheme; renaming the existing Schedule to the LSIO to Schedule 2 (LSIO2); and amending the Schedule to Clause 72.03 to update the list of maps in the Planning Scheme.

A copy of the Amendment can be inspected, free of charge, at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning website at www.planning. vic.gov.au/public-inspection and free of charge, during office hours, at the offices of the Mount Alexander Shire Council, Civic Centre, 27 Lyttleton Street, Castlemaine.

Apply for Land Management Rate

Landholders can apply for the Land Management Rate by Friday 1 March to receive a 20 percent reduction off the general property rate for the next two financial years.

This special rate category is available to properties rated as a farm in the 2018/2019 financial year and are more than 20 hectares (49 acres) in size, or operate a farming business.

Owners must commit to undertake specified environmental management activities on the property. To find out more or to apply visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/lmr or phone our Natural Resources Officer on 5471 1700.

Business planning workshop

Our Small Business Workshop Series starts on Monday 11 February with a business planning essentials session. The two hour workshop will help put your business on the path to long-term success by taking you through the vital process of building a business plan.

The Business Planning Essentials Workshop will be held from 6.00pm to 8.00pm on Monday 11 February at the Civic Centre, Lyttleton Street, Castlemaine. Cost is $20. Book your place via www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/BusinessResources.

Apply for a community grant

Local groups and organisations can now apply for Council’s Community Grants Program. Applications are open until Monday 18 February.

Speak with staff about your project idea at an information session to be held from 6.00pm to 7.00pm on Thursday 7 February at Taradale Community Hall, 144 High Street.

Satisfaction survey starts soon

Residents are encouraged to participate in the 2019 Community Satisfaction Survey to assess the performance of Council. The annual statewide telephone survey will begin early this month. It is carried out by independent market research agency National Field Surveys. A random, representative sample of residents will be surveyed. Feedback will help identify areas for improvement.
