Wednesday 20 February 2019

To mark the tenth anniversary of the devastating Victorian fires in summer 2009, Mount Alexander Shire Council is hosting a free screening of the documentary ‘Forged from Fire’.

The documentary is directed by Andrew Garten, and follows the healing power of the Black Saturday 'Tree Project'.

The project remembers people lost to the fires and the CFA men and women who worked tirelessly to protect towns and forests.

The Australian Blacksmiths Association (Victoria) Inc. invited blacksmiths from across the country and around the world to contribute to the creation of a commemorative gum tree made of steel.

Five years on 'The Tree' was erected on 14 February 2014 in the township of Strathewen, north-east of Melbourne. The documentary beautifully captures this journey.

Council invites everyone along to the Phee Broadway Theatre for the free screening from 6.00pm to 7.00pm on Thursday 28 February.

Secure your place.
