Road discontinuation at Harcourt

Council proposes to discontinue a portion of the unused government road to the east of Harmony Way between Bridge Street and south of Market Street at Harcourt. Once the road has been discontinued the land will be transferred to the Crown to be incorporated into the area known as Stanley Park.

This proposal is made under Section 206 (1) and Clause 3 of Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 1989. You may make a submission to this proposal in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989.

Submissions will be received until 5.00pm on Wednesday 27 March.

Any person making a submission must state in the submission whether he or she wishes to appear in person, or be represented by a person specified in the submission, at an Ordinary Meeting of Council to be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 16 April in the Civic Centre.

Please note that copies of submissions (including submitters’ names and addresses) will be made available at the Council meeting at which the above proposal will be considered. Council is also required to make submissions available for public inspection for a period of twelve months.

Join a free guided tour of the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens and learn about some of the fascinating history of the heritage listed gardens. The one-hour walk is suitable for all ages and abilities. Meet at 6.00pm on Tuesday 12 March at the Old Tea Rooms at the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens, off Downes Street. The tour is part of Castlemaine District Community Health’s monthly walk series.

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the devastating Victorian fires of 2009, we are hosting a free screening of the documentary Forged from Fire. The film follows the Black Saturday Tree Project - the creation of a steel gum tree by blacksmiths as a tribute to people lost to the fires and those who helped to protect towns and forests. The screening will be held from 6.00pm to 7.00pm on Thursday 28 February at the Phee Broadway Theatre, Mechanics Lane, Castlemaine. If you know someone who is doing great things and is aged between 12 and 25, you can nominate them for a Mount Alexander Youth Award. Categories include the Workplace, Music and the Arts, Sports and Recreation, the Community, the Environment, and Education. Nominations close at midnight on Sunday 24 March. Collect a form from the Civic Centre, Castlemaine Library, Maldon Neighbourhood Centre and at www.mountalexandershireyouth.com.au. Winners will be announced at a free Youth Awards Festival to be held at Victory Park in Castlemaine on Friday 5 April. The awards are coordinated by Council and supported by the Victorian Government’s Youth Week Grants. Outdoor pools at Castlemaine, Harcourt, Maldon and Newstead will close for the season at 6.00pm on Monday 11 March.
