Road improvements to Urquhart Street

Intersection near Castlemaine Primary School.

Monday 18 March 2019

Works will start in early April to improve traffic and pedestrian flow along Urquhart Street in Castlemaine.

The works will occur between Lyttleton and Mostyn streets and include widening the road, formalising the kerb and channel at the Mostyn Street intersection and reconstructing the Lyttleton Street roundabout.

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Director Infrastructure and Development Phil Josipovic said the works will take around eight weeks to complete.

“It’s a big project as we need to dig up and replace the road surface, roundabout and intersection,” said Mr Josipovic.

“Unfortunately there will be an impact on traffic as sections of Urquhart Street will be closed during the works. However, signs will be in place to direct traffic and pedestrians,” he said.

“While there may be temporary inconveniences the works will have a big impact on improving the road surface and drainage.

“The works are also planned to ensure safer access for students at Castlemaine Primary School.”

Mr Josipovic said the works will run throughout the April school holidays to minimise the impact on students, families and staff.

Council has informed nearby residents and the school of the works.

The project is funded by the Federal Government's Roads to Recovery program.
