Victorian Youth Week and school holidays are just around the corner and young people aged 12-25 years are invited to participate in a range of activities and events on offer as part of Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mondo Lounge.
The two week youth activities program has something for everyone, including Council’s Youth Awards Festival, a rock climbing and abseiling excursion with Mirawara Outdoor Experiences, and the infamous Library Lock In.
“We’re excited for the school holidays to kick off, with a range of free events and excursions, there’s bound to be something to interest everyone,” said Jodie Hearn, Youth Activities Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.
Youth Awards Festival at Victory Park
When: 4.00pm – 7.00pm, Friday 5 April.
Where: Victory Park, Castlemaine
Council will announce winners of the Mount Alexander Shire Youth Awards at this family friendly event. Head down after school and enjoy free craft, activities, entertainment and food. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Rock climbing and abseiling excursion
When: 9.00am – 5.00pm, Thursday 11 April
Castlemaine Library lock in
When: 6.30pm – 9.00pm, Wednesday 16 April
Spaces are limited spaces for the rock climbing excursion and Castlemaine Library Lock In. Bookings are required. To book your place contact the Youth Development team on 5471 1700 or youth@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Mondo Lounge also runs a Friday drop-in during school terms, from 3.30pm-6.00pm. It’s a space to meet with friends after school in a safe, supervised and supportive environment. Activities have included cooking sessions, art and craft workshops, movie screenings, trivia and videogame competitions.
Mondo Lounge is an initiative of Mount Alexander Shire Council and is funded by the Victorian Government’s Engage! program.
