Are you part of a volunteer-run community group or organisation? Book a free stall at the Mount Alexander Volunteer Expo. Promote what you do and the volunteer opportunities available. The expo will be held on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 May at the Market Building in Castlemaine. Registration forms for the expo are available at Castlemaine Library, Maldon Neighbourhood House, the Civic Centre and at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/volunteer. Come along to our next small business workshop and find out how to get your idea to market. Assess the feasibility of your idea, decide its business potential and develop a clear strategy. The Commercialising Your Idea workshop will be held over two sessions at 9.30am to 12.30pm on Monday 6 May and 9.30am to 12.00noon on Monday 13 May at the Civic Centre, Castlemaine. Cost is $75. Council offices will close for the Easter long weekend at 5.00pm on Thursday 18 April and reopen at 8.30am Tuesday 23 April. For an emergency regarding roads and drains, maternal and child health services or stock and animal control (excluding wildlife) on weekends or public holidays you can contact Council on 5471 1700 and follow the prompts.

Parents and carers are invited to take part in Youth Mental Health First Aid training in May. Over four sessions you’ll learn how to recognise possible emerging mental health concerns or a mental health crisis. Dinner is included. Sessions run from 5.00pm to 8.30pm on Thursday 2, 9, 16 and 23 May at the Civic Centre, Castlemaine. Cost is $50. To book visit www.mountalexandershireyouth.com.au/training. Each year we prepare a budget and give you the opportunity to review the draft and make a submission. Key dates:
• 12.00pm, Wednesday 17 April: Proposed budget goes on public display
• 5.00pm, Wednesday 15 May: Closing date for public submissions
• 5.00pm, Tuesday 21 May: Hear submissions at a Special Meeting of Council
• 6.30pm, Tuesday 12 June (updated): Adopt 2019/2020 Budget at an Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Look out for the proposed budget on our website. A summary of the proposed budget will be advertised in the Midland Express in April. Proposed dates may change.
