Don’t forget to register your furry friend

Dog relaxing in the park

Mount Alexander Shire Council thanks all responsible pet owners who renewed their pet registration by the 10 April due date.

“We are very pleased to see so many pet owners have registered their pet by the April deadline,” said Jeffry Amy, Coordinator Community Safety and Amenity, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“We’ve had some great names of pets registered. Some of the more unusual dog names are Apache Fantastic, Coco Bananas and Mozart Rusty.

“In regards to cats Chairman Meow has been a favourite for a few years. We also enjoyed Kitty Soft Paws, Dinner Mintz and Fatty Meow,” he said.

“Unfortunately a glitch in our new system meant some of the information sent on the pet registration forms was incorrect. Thank you to everyone who showed such patience when updating these details.”

Follow up reminder notices will be soon sent to residents who haven’t yet registered their pets. Council will also conduct routine house checks.

“With pet registrations starting at $23, it’s a lot cheaper to register your pet than receive a $323 fine,” said Mr Amy.

Mr Amy said that all dogs and cats over three months must be registered. People have until mid-May to register their pets without receiving a fine.

“The majority of pet owners love their pets and have registered their dog or cat already,” he said.
