Come along and share your ideas about ways to stimulate the Harcourt economy at a fun community ideas-a-thon. Compete against other teams, win prizes and the opportunity to develop your ideas further. The family friendly event will be held from 6.00pm on Saturday 25 May at the Harcourt Bowling Club. Sign in from 5.30pm. Refreshments are provided. Shine Harcourt is a Council project designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities. Families with children under 8 years, early years’ educators, service providers and organisations are invited to come along to the next Early Years Forum. If you’re into mountain biking be sure to make the most of the trial bus shuttle service that will drop you and your bike off at Daylesford or Vaughan Springs so you can ride (or walk) back to Castlemaine along the Dry Diggings stretch of the Goldfields Track. The shuttle bus will run every Saturday and Sunday in May. The trial service is a partnership between the Goldfields Track Inc. and Council, with support from Tread at Harcourt. Book your place through the Castlemaine Visitor Information Centre on 5471 1795 or at www.maldoncastlemaine.com.au.

Council is presenting four free workshops as part of National Volunteer Week:

Recruitment, Retention and Recognition - 10.30am to 12.00noon, Monday 20 May.
Bam! Get super powered with skilled volunteering - 1.30pm to 2.30pm, Monday 20 May.
Grants Writing - 10.00am to 12.30pm, Tuesday 21 May.
Online Savvy 101 - 1.00pm to 3.00pm, Tuesday 21 May.

All workshops will be held at the Ray Bradfield Room in Castlemaine. Bookings are essential and places are limited. Register via www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/Volunteer. Council will also hold a Volunteer Expo and celebration afternoon tea. See our website for more information.

We would like to hear about your experiences of enrolling your child or children at local kindergartens. A short survey is available at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay. Printed surveys are available at community hubs and local kindergartens. The survey is open until Friday 17 May.

The next federal election will be held on Saturday 18 May. Council does not play a role in federal elections other than to provide a venue for polling stations. For information about pre-election day voting, candidates and other details please contact the Australian Electoral Commission on 132 326 or at www.aec.gov.au. An early voting centre will be located at Castlemaine Town Hall from Saturday 11 May. Opening hours vary throughout the week in the lead up to the election. Contact the AEC for details.

The Fire Danger Period for our shire has ended. Thank you to everyone for taking care and working to reduce the risk of fire during this period.
