Castlemaine Library will close to the public on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 July while the collection is relocated to a pop-up library at the Market Building in Mostyn Street. The pop-up library will open on Wednesday 10 July and will remain at the Market Building until September while building works are underway. The library is accepting contributions for a time capsule that will be buried beneath the library floor. Pop into the library and complete a form or drop off a letter to future generations. Victoria Police and Council invite community members and business people to join the Mount Alexander Shire Safety Committee (MASSC). Do your winter woollies need mending? Come along to a needle felting workshop organised by Castlemaine CWA from 10.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday 13 July at Ray Bradfield Room, Castlemaine. You’ll learn the skills needed to mend your woollens. Kits will be available on the day. Light refreshments will be served. Cost is $10. RSVPs are not required. 35 Etty Street Castlemaine

Notice is given under Section 190 and 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 that Council intends to lease part of the land at 35 Etty Street Castlemaine to Workspace Australia Ltd and Castlemaine Hot Rod Centre Ltd.

Council intends entering into a fifteen year (5 years with 2 x 5 year options) head lease with the Department of Education and Training for unused land and buildings at the former Castlemaine Secondary College Etty Street campus.

Council then intends to enter into separate subleases with Workspace Australia Ltd and Castlemaine Hot Rod Centre Ltd. The permitted use of the land under the lease will be office space, educational and community activities. The rent will be $120 per year for each tenant. The sublease to Workspace Australia Ltd and Castlemaine Hot Rod Centre Ltd proposes to pass on all obligations from the head lease to Workspace Australia Ltd and Castlemaine Hot Rod Centre Ltd.

Council is seeking written comment on the proposal to lease these premises. Submissions should indicate whether the person or a person acting on their behalf wishes to be heard before Council at the Ordinary Meeting of Council in August.

Submissions will be considered in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989. They will be accepted until 5.00pm on Wednesday 31 July and should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council, PO Box 185, Castlemaine VIC 3450, or email info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.
