A constellation of poetry and music at the Phee

Deep Space

Friday 5 July 2019

Create At Home residents at the Phee Broadway Theatre will take audiences on a journey through outer and inner space in two free performances this July as part of their Deep Space project.

Artists Tegan Gigante, Julie Henchman, David Major, Gary Beaumont and Paul Lamb have been working in the theatre, fine tuning a new sound work that will bring poetry and music together in a highly immersive experience.

Deep Space draws on the concepts of deep listening and will ask the audience to surrender themselves to a contemplative and meditative experience.

The origins of Deep Space lie within an original poem by Tegan. Tegan is a published poet and convenes central Victoria’s monthly community poetry event, ‘PoetiCas’. For this project she has collaborated with her band, White Rabbit to explore the poem’s concepts through music.

Deep Space is the fourth residency project in a series of 11 that makes up the 2019 At Home program at The Phee.

Producer Tegan is looking forward to sharing the results with the community.

“The Phee Broadway At Home program has provided a wonderful opportunity to create a new work and explore the possibilities of the theatre environment,” said Tegan.

“It’s a great experience for us to discover new dimensions to the potential of poetic and dramatic performance, and we’re very grateful for the support from Mount Alexander Shire.”

Council’s Cultural Development Officer Vicki Anderson is delighted the At Home program continues to gives rise to such rich collaborations and performances.

“Council is proud to provide our artists the time and space to develop new ideas and productions as part of the At Home residency program at the Phee Broadway Theatre,” said Vicki.

Works to upgrade the Castlemaine Library will not impact theatre performances. Deep Space is free to attend but bookings are recommended.
