Young musicians aged between 12-25 years can now apply to be a part of the Mount Alexander Shire Battle of the Bands to be held at the end of August.

Battle of the Bands is an annual music competition that gives young people an opportunity to gain performance experience in a supportive and safe environment.

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s FReeZA Committee Eight Metre Speaker has opened the battle up to all young musicians who reside in Central Victoria, to compete against peers for great prizes, with first place taking home $500 for new equipment, instruments or recording time.

“Battle of the Bands is a fantastic all ages event and we see amazing young musicians come through the music competition each year,” said Jodie Hearn, Youth Activities Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“The event provides a great platform for young musicians to gain stage experience in a super supportive environment and potentially take home prize money to contribute to their musical career,” said Ms Hearn.

To be eligible you must be aged between 12 and 25 years and live, work or play in Central Victoria. At least half of the members in each band must be aged under 21 years.

Application forms are available at Castlemaine Library, Castlemaine Secondary College reception and Mount Alexander Shire Civic Centre. You can also pick up a copy at the Mondo Lounge Youth Space on a Friday afternoon, download the form from Council’s youth website or make a request via the Mount Alexander Youth Facebook or Instagram page.

Applications are due by Monday 5 August. The Battle of the Bands will be held on Friday 30 August at the Castlemaine Theatre Royal.

FReeZA is a Victorian Government funded program that supports music and cultural events run by and for young people aged 12 to 25 years. All events are fully supervised, accessible, alcohol, drug and smoke free.
