Works underway at Saint Street

Works are underway at Saint Street in Castlemaine to reduce the risk of stormwater flooding and help protect homes in the neighbourhood.

Mount Alexander Shire Council is carrying out the works, which is the second stage of a three-part project to improve drainage in the area.

The works include extending the pipe network to link up with the major concrete pipes installed last year. The team will also install new roadside kerb and guttering on the northern side of Saint Street to better direct stormwater into the underground pipe network.

During the works Saint Street is closed between Barker Street (Pyrenees Highway) and Wheeler Street to all traffic except for local residents. Vehicle detour is via Forest Street.

Local residents will continue to have access to their properties at all times.

Council expects the works to take around four weeks, with completion in mid-October, pending weather conditions. Local business Leech Earthmoving and Contracting is undertaking the $120,000 project.
