Council has launched its new Buzz It card, giving young people essential contact numbers for emergency relief and support services.

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Youth Advisory Group has unveiled the latest version of the Buzz it Card.

The Buzz It card includes important information for young people on how to access assistance and support services across a range of areas including health and mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, finance, legal support, education, employment, and emergency relief.

The resource was developed and updated by Council’s Youth Advisory Group (YAG).

YAG is a dedicated group of volunteers aged from 12 – 25 years who provide input into Council plans and strategies, and help identify issues and solutions relevant to young people.

YAG members are keen to raise awareness about the resource and have engaged with young people in the community in many ways including school talks and lunch time activities at Castlemaine Secondary College, following a sneak peak at the Battle of the Bands last month.

“We’ve created a bit of a buzz with a hop-hop rap as a fun way to get the message across but we also want people to know there’s a serious side,” said Maisie Mellick-Cooper, Youth Advisory Group member.

“The Buzz It card is an accessible mental health tool, available to anyone who is struggling.

“The card is easy to read and lists an abundance of services for you. It lets you know who to call when you’ve got a problem or need some help,” said Maisie.

The Buzz It card is now available in digital and hardcopy.

Hardcopies can be found at various locations across the shire including the Civic Centre, Castlemaine Library, community centres, local schools and CHIRP.

The online version is available in the support and resources section on Council’s youth website www.mountalexandershireyouth.com.au.

This resource was developed by Council as part of its commitment to improve access to mental health services for the community. For more information contact Council’s Youth Development Unit on 5471 1700 or email youth@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.
