Fire Danger Period has started

The CFA has declared our shire to be in the Fire Danger Period. This means fires (other than those in constructed fireplaces) cannot be lit in the open air without a written permit from CFA or Council’s Fire Prevention Officer. The Fire Danger Period is based on local conditions and takes into account fuel moisture, fuel loads, grassland curing, weather and rainfall. For more information visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions or call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226. All burn-offs must have a permit and be registered with the VicFire Burn-off notification line on 1800 668 511.

Prepare now for summer

There are a few things you can do to protect yourself, your family, property and neighbours in the Fire Danger Period. Make sure you have an emergency plan that outlines when to leave, where to go and what to take. To prepare your property clear rubbish away from around your home, cut grasses, clear gutters and relocate woodpiles away from buildings. Don’t forget to check what your insurance covers. For more information visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/FirePrevention.
