Services over Christmas

We will close our offices at 5.00pm on Friday 20 December and reopen at 8.30am on Thursday 2 January for the holiday season. You can still get in touch with us if there is an emergency. For emergencies regarding roads and drains, maternal and child health or stock and animal control (excluding wildlife) call 5471 1700 and follow the prompts.

Christmas bin collection

Due to public holidays residents who normally have their bins collected on a Wednesday will have them collected on Saturday 28 December (instead of Christmas Day) and Saturday 4 January 2020 (instead of New Years Day). Report a missed bin collection via a service request on our website or call Veolia Environmental on (03) 5820 8500.

Bushfire preparedness event

Learn how to prepare yourself, pets and property for bushfires at a family-friendly information session at Castlemaine. Speak with and hear from fire and emergency experts, bushfire survivors and local agency representatives. The event will be held from 11.00am to 1.00pm on Saturday 14 December at the grassed area between the Market Building and supermarket on Mostyn Street. Presentations start at 11.30am at the Ray Bradfield Room.

Works at reclamation plant

Coliban Water has advised Council it will undertake works to address odour concerns from the community at the reclamation plant in Langslow Street in Castlemaine. The works will start on Monday 16 December. There may be an initial increased odour before it reduces. Nearby residents have been notified. Australia Day Awards extended

Nominations have been extended for the 2020 Mount Alexander Shire Australia Day Awards. Submit your nomination by 5.00pm on Wednesday 11 December. Find the form at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/AustraliaDay, the Civic Centre or Visitor Information Centres at Castlemaine or Maldon.

Look out for your neighbour

On very hot days please call in and check on vulnerable or frail aged friends, neighbours and family members. Extreme heat is very dangerous and kills more people than any natural disaster. Thank you for keeping our community safe. For tips on helping people during summer visit our website.

Morrissey Reserve play space

Community members and nearby residents are invited to a drop in session to discuss plans to upgrade the play space at Morrissey Reserve in Castlemaine. Drop in between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on Thursday 12 December at Morrissey Reserve, 37 View Street, Castlemaine.

Pools now open

The pool season has now started for pools at Castlemaine, Maldon, Harcourt and Newstead. For information on opening times, facilities and the weather policy visit www.mountalexanderpools.com.au.

Campbells Creek AGM

The Campbells Creek Community Centre Special Committee of Council AGM has been rescheduled to 7.00pm on Wednesday 11 December at the Campbells Creek Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend.
