Australia Day community event

Join Australia Day activities at Victory Park in Castlemaine from 10.00am to 12.00pm on Sunday 26 January. Meet Australia Day Award recipients and welcome our newest Australian citizens. Enjoy entertainment and cool off with a free ice cream. Food and drinks will be available for purchase or bring along a picnic.

Free pool entry

Don’t forget that Council and YMCA Victoria offers free pool entry on Australia Day. Swim for free at swimming pools at Castlemaine, Harcourt, Maldon and Newstead.

Council grants open soon

Round two of our Events and Community Grants 2019/2020 will open on Tuesday 28 January and close at 4.00pm on Tuesday 18 February. The grants provide financial support to local organisations and groups for events, projects and activities. Find more information at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/Grants or come along to a drop-in session held from:

• 10.00am to 12noon on Tuesday 28 January at the Ray Bradfield Room, Castlemaine.
• 5.00pm to 6.00pm on Tuesday 28 January at the Civic Centre, Castlemaine.
• 10.00am to 12noon on Thursday 30 January at Maldon Community Centre.

Bookings are not required. Please note the event grants are intended for those held between July and December 2020.

Botanical gardens walking tour

Join a free guided tour of the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens on Wednesday 29 January. Boost your health while you learn about the plants and history of the 19th century gardens. The hour-long walk starts at 10.00am. Meet at the Botanical Gardens Former Tea Rooms, off Downes Street. The walk is organised by CHIRP Community Health in partnership with Council. It will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain or a Code Red day.

Upcoming roadworks

Works to upgrade three sections of the Bendigo – Sutton Grange Road will start on Tuesday 28 January. Works are expected to be completed by April, weather permitting. There will be traffic delays during the upgrade. Property access will be maintained. We apologise for any inconvenience. The upgrade is jointly funded through Regional Roads Victoria’s Fixing Country Roads Program and the Federal Roads to Recovery Program.

Apply for Land Management Rate

Eligible farmers and landholders have until Friday 14 February to apply for the Land Management Rate (LMR). The LMR offers a 20 per cent reduction off the general property rate for undertaking environmental management activities. Conditions apply.
