Would you like to have some input on the local programs, services and partnerships that benefit children aged 8 to 12 years and their families?

Parents and carers, educators and service providers are invited to attend a forum to help shape the development of the first Middle Years Plan for Mount Alexander Shire.

The Middle Years Forum is the second in a series of three that aims to bring families and service providers together to develop services to support children aged from 8 to12 years and their families.

The forum will provide participants with the opportunity to create ideas and actions for the plan under the following three priority areas. The areas are happy and safe kids, active and adventurous kids, and connected kids and families.

These three areas have been developed from community input at the first forum and more than 400 survey responses received last year.

“We are very excited with the feedback we have received from the community so far, "said Gaynor Atkin, Manager Community Partnerships, Mount Alexander Shire Council.
"Our next forum will give us the opportunity to present the findings, further explore ideas to support the priority areas, and start to develop objectives, actions and outcomes for them."

“So far we have heard that children aged 8 to 12 years value living in the shire, their community and families but we also heard that they are concerned about the environment, being ready for high school and doing well at school,” said Ms Atkin.

“We hope that children and families that have ideas on what we can do collectively to further explore these values and address these concerns, will join us at the forum and help us to create an inspirational Middle Years Plan.”

The development of the Middle Years Plan is part of Council’s commitment to facilitate an accessible range of services for all, including children, young people and families. The plan leads on from the Mount Alexander Early Years Plan 2018-2021 that is currently in its second year of implementation.

Following the forum, a draft plan will be developed, which is expected to be open for public comment around the middle of the year.
