Join a commercial heritage walk

Council is seeking feedback on the draft Maldon Design Guidelines which aim to guide design and development that is sensitive to preserving the historical significance of Maldon. Council’s Heritage Advisor will lead two walks through Maldon’s commercial area to illustrate some of the features in the town that make it historically and culturally significant. The walks will be held from 3.30pm to 4.00pm on Tuesday 3 and 10 March. To register your interest, along with preferred time and date, contact Council on 5471 1815 or email strategicplanning@mountalexander.vic.gov.au. Council will also hold a second drop-in information session from 4.00pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday 18 March at Maldon Community Centre on Francis Street. Castlemaine Oscars

Young filmmakers are invited to submit an entry in the first COscars (Castlemaine Oscars) Youth Film Festival hosted by Council’s Youth Advisory Group and FReeZA Committee. The short film competition is open to all young people aged 12 to 25 years from Central Victoria. Submissions are due by midnight on Wednesday 18 March. Winning films and a selection of entries will be screened at the COscars Youth Film Festival held on Friday 27 March at the Camp Reserve Oval, Castlemaine. The Council initiative is funded by the Victorian Government’s Youth Week Grant.

Roadworks at Barkers Creek

Council will seal a 1.2km stretch of Specimen Gully Road at Barkers Creek, between the Midland Highway and Blakeley Road. Construction will start the week commencing 9 March and will be complete by the end of May, weather permitting. Works will include widening the pavement, sealing, drainage and culvert upgrades and other minor works as required. Traffic management will be in place during the project and at least one lane will remain open at all times. This project is jointly funded by Fixing Country Road program and Roads to Recovery.

Climate change workshops

Council is supporting a series of climate change workshops hosted by Castlemaine Community House.
• Coping with climate change – 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Wednesday 11 March
• Deep adaptation to climate change – 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Monday 23 March.
• Parent workshop – Talking with children about climate change – 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Monday 30 March.
Sessions are presented by Dr Susie Burke and held at Castlemaine Community House, 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine. Cost is $15 or $10 concession per workshop. Book via https://cch.weteachme.com.
