Free training for community groups

Find out about the upcoming free workshops for community groups who rely on volunteers.

Thursday 12 March 2020

Volunteers and community organisations are invited to attend free training throughout 2020 to build skills and expertise across a number of areas.

Mount Alexander Shire Council and Volunteer Central Vic have collaborated to provide a calendar of workshops aimed at supporting volunteers and community groups.

“We held a volunteer networking workshop in Castlemaine last year and it was apparent there is a need for more support and resources for volunteers and community organisations that manage volunteers,” said Lisa Richards from Volunteer Central Vic.

Six workshops are programmed throughout year with the aim to expand the program in 2021.

The first workshop on 28 March will help community groups better support their volunteers and increase their volunteer base.

“We are very excited to partner with Volunteer Central Vic to provide a program of free training from expert facilitators in the volunteering space,” said Gaynor Atkin, Manager Community Partnerships, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“The workshops include learning about volunteering and the law, how to access funding and grants, how to become a child safe organisation and how to get the best out of your committee,” said Ms Atkin.

“We hope that community groups take up this free opportunity and gain some valuable skills that will assist them to continue doing their amazing work in our region.”

Bookings are essential and places limited. To register for a free workshop please visit www.eventbrite.com.au.
