During these difficult times it's important for young children to have fun and play.

Monday 30 March 2020

With the cancellation of playgroups and other activities for young children due to coronavirus COVID-19, now is the time to play and have fun with your family.

Children thrive on play opportunities and positive interactions with others. While close interactions are limited there are many wonderful play ideas to explore with your children at home.

“Play is essential in young children’s learning and healthy development and has an amazingly positive impact on adults’ wellbeing and stress levels too,” said Libby Page, Mount Alexander Shire’s Supported Playgroup Facilitator.

“With so much uncertainty at the moment it’s important to regularly play and engage with your child,” said Ms Page.

“Play is more than just fun, it builds stronger connections in your child’s brain and lays the foundations for your child’s future learning, behaviour and health,” she said.

Playgroup Victoria is sharing ideas for everyday play through their ‘20 days of at home play’ program.

“There seems to be a lot of education packs and ideas out there for school aged children but this fabulous list of play ideas is aimed at young children aged 0-5 years,” said Mrs Page.

To find out more join the ‘Playgroup at Home by Playgroup Victoria’ Facebook page or search ‘20 Days of at home play’ at www.playgroup.org.au.
