Coronavirus COVID-19 update

We understand there is much concern about coronavirus COVID-19 and we are doing what we can to help reduce its impact and spread. Our team is working behind the scenes to deliver essential services and support our community, staff and volunteers while following advice from governments and health authorities. We aim to keep programs and services running for as long as possible within the guidelines, and directives to shut down non-essential activity. We have launched a dedicated email to help residents who need it most during this challenging time. Contact covid19@mountalexander.vic.gov.au to find out more about what Council is doing in response to COVID-19 or to be referred to partner organisations and agencies who can help. For updates on Council services visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/coronavirus. We urge residents to stay home and follow the precautions to minimise the spread of COVID-19. Remember to look out for each other and check on your family, friends and neighbours that might need assistance. For more information call the coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398 or visit www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus.

Council's initial relief measures

Council has announced some initial relief measures to help the community and local businesses manage some of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. These are:
• Provide ratepayers with a one month extension on the due date for the fourth rates instalment, to 30 June.
• Establish a Council COVID-19 financial hardship policy including provision for the development of payment plans and consideration of interest waivers on overdue rate payments.
• Put a temporary hold on following up unpaid animal registrations (due 10 April).
• Pay all suppliers as quickly as possible in weekly payment schedules, regardless of payment terms.
• A reduction of commercial rents in Council-owned buildings until 30 June 2020, for businesses significantly impacted by COVID-19.
See more details on our website. More support measures will be announced when finalised.

Pet registrations

Council is providing pet owners extra time to pay for pet registrations as one of several measures to reduce financial pressures on the community. It is important residents ensure their pet is registered by the due date of 10 April. However, registration fees can be made until 30 June. Council has sent renewal forms to pet owners, which includes payment options.
