With Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday 10 May there are plenty of options to celebrate your mum and support local businesses.

It’s a challenging year for everyone, and mums are no exception. Some are juggling work with home schooling, some aren’t able to see their kids, and others are striving to keep their business afloat.

While Mother’s Day may look a lot different this year, you can still show your mum how much she means to you with a fabulous gift or a Mother’s Day surprise.

“Our local businesses have something for every mum and there’s never been a more important time to shop locally,” said David Leathem, Manager Local Economy, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“Whether your mum would love a bunch of blooms, a thoughtfully prepared meal or gorgeous gift, our Mother’s Day shopping guide has lots of ideas to help make your mum’s day that extra bit special,” said Mr Leathem.

There are some lovely do-it-yourself breakfast packages delivered straight to your door. Saint Florian Café is offering a Persian rose French toast, along with cooking instructions. The Blackbird Newstead is offering beautifully prepared Viva La France breakfast boxes.

Head to Castlemaine Floristry for flowering pot plants, bunches of flowers and a lovely range of gifts. For a gorgeous bunch of locally grown roses or hydrangeas look no further than Rose & Abraham.

If your mum is keen on something sweet be sure to visit Cabosse & Feve, talented local chocolatiers who have a range of chocolate hampers for Mother’s Day. Pud for All Seasons and Peddling Pastry have teamed up to create sweet treat hampers and can tailor them to suit your mum's taste. Yum!

For a long lasting reminder of Mother’s Day select a piece of jewellery or ethical gift from the exquisite collection at Tribe. Local favourite Corner Store Merchants offer a colourful array of options with show stopping jewellery, clothing and more.

Shades of Gray offer handmade metal flowers for a vase or for mum’s garden, providing enjoyment for years to come.

Portia & Co. has a wide range of items including Australian native seeds, handmade washcloths, brightly printed tea towels, gorgeous soaps and more.
