Change to bin collection in Castlemaine

Waste and recycling bins

Wednesday 6 May 2020

The collection schedule for kerbside rubbish and recycling will change in May for around 250 households located north of Castlemaine central business district.

Mount Alexander Shire Council and kerbside collection contractor Veolia Environmental will change the collection days to improve efficiency and ensure truck drivers do not exceed the maximum number of driving hours each day as required under legislation.

“We have had to adjust our Tuesday bin collection routes to accommodate growth in areas such as Harcourt,” said Casey Hearps, Victoria Central Manager, Veolia.

From 18 May some properties to the west of Barker Street will have kerbside collection on Wednesdays and some properties to the east of Barker Street will move to collection on Mondays.

“Impacted residents will receive a letter in the mail this week outlining the changes,” said Ms Hearps.

“With any change there is likely to be an adjustment period, so if your bin is missed please lodge a customer service request on Council’s website,” she said.

The recycling collection will remain fortnightly.

Households impacted by the change include some on Forest, Fredrick, Hargraves, Lyttleton, Urquhart, Doveton, Bruce, Templeton, Mostyn, and Campbell streets.
