The Mount Alexander Shire Civic Centre is located on Lyttleton Street in Castlemaine

The May Council meeting will be broadcast live to the internet. Find out how you can get involved.

Wednesday 13 May 2020

Mount Alexander Shire Council will hold its next Council Meeting in a virtual format online, with community members able to watch online from home.

It follows changes to the Local Government Act 2020, passed in the Victorian Parliament last month, to ensure local government decision-making continues under the current coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

Councillors will hold the meeting face-to-face at the Civic Centre. While the gallery will be closed to the public, the meeting will still be broadcast live to the internet.

It will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 19 May, and will be livestreamed on Council’s You Tube channel. Simply search for Mount Alexander Shire Council on YouTube.

A recording will be placed on Council’s website on the day following the meeting.

The agenda will be available on Council’s website for public view by 5.00pm Thursday 14 May.

Community attendance will be livestream only at this stage. The public can participate in the meeting by submitting questions and/or an address, no more than three minutes long.

Send your question to the Governance Team, Mount Alexander Shire Council, PO Box 185, Castlemaine 3450 VIC, or email to governance@mountalexander.vic.gov.au. The questions will be read out and answered at the Council meeting. Council will also provide a written response to questions. Please submit your questions by 12 noon, Tuesday 19 May.

The changes to the Local Government Act apply from 1 May 2020 to 1 November 2020.

Councils do not need to provide for members of the public to physically attend meetings.

The provision of public access to livestreamed events satisfies the public attendance test during the prescribed period.
