Free online workshop on volunteering and the law

Group of adult volunteers of all ages.

Wednesday 8 July 2020

If you are a volunteer or part of an organisation that manages volunteers, a free online workshop will help you to better understanding your legal rights and responsibilities.

The three hour Volunteering and the Law workshop, presented by Justice Connect, is part of the 2020 Volunteer Training Calendar developed by Mount Alexander Shire Council and Volunteer Central Vic.

“We know that engaging volunteers can sometimes be tricky. Being aware of legal issues involved in volunteering will help your group be more effective and have a bigger impact,” said Lisa Richards from Volunteer Central Vic.

“As programs and activities start to recommence, now is the perfect time to brush up on your knowledge and procedures,” said Ms Richards.

“Make sure your group or organisation knows how to look after those who give their time to care for community,” she said.

Council’s Manager Community Partnerships Gaynor Atkin said there is a range of volunteer workshops over coming months as part of the training calendar.

“Volunteers make an enormous contribution to our community so we have developed this training calendar as an opportunity to support them to continue doing what they love and gain some important skills along the way,” said Ms Atkin.

“Volunteers have been particularly hard hit due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic so these sessions are an opportunity to help them connect again with each other and the community as well as build new skills,” said Ms Atkin.
