Thursday 6 August 2020

With the return to Stage 3 ‘Stay at Home’ restrictions in regional Victoria, Mount Alexander Shire Council will again close a range of public facilities.

Facilities to temporarily close from 11.59pm Wednesday 5 August include playgrounds, skate parks, BMX parks, sports pavilions and community halls.

Parks, reserves and sporting grounds remain open for the community to get their daily exercise in accordance with the restrictions and public gathering rules. Public toilets will be open with strict cleaning procedures in place.

Council closed its Customer Service Centre last week and the shire’s main Visitor Information Centre in Castlemaine will not reopen this weekend.

The Maldon Visitor Information Centre, the Castlemaine Town Hall and Phee Broadway Theatre were already closed.

Kerbside bin collection for waste and recycling will operate as usual. While Castlemaine and Maldon Waste Facilities will remain open, residents are urged to delay non-essential visits.

Mount Alexander Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Darren Fuzzard said the organisation aims to keep as many programs and services running for as long as possible.

“We will continue to deliver essential services like meals on wheels, kerbside bin collections and immunisations, and staff are available to provide phone and online support. We may not be operating business as usual but we continue to adapt and change how we deliver on our commitments to the community,” said Mr Fuzzard,

“While many staff are working from home you will still see many indoor and outdoor staff working under the latest restrictions out in the community, along with capital works projects continuing where possible.”
